Rezolv Energy has secured a grant from the European Union under the NextGenerationEU programme for the deployment of a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at the St. George solar power plant in Bulgaria.

The project involves the construction of a 90MW / 240.768MWh BESS, which is designed to enhance the operational flexibility and energy management capabilities of the plant. The system employs a hybrid configuration of 0.5C and 0.25C battery technologies, offering a balance between high-power and high-energy capabilities.

The storage system will initially be used for load shifting, with future capability to support energy arbitrage and ancillary grid services. Once operational, the BESS will optimise energy dispatch from the plant to optimise the use of the clean power generated.

St. George is a 225MW utility-scale solar project which is currently being built on the site of the former Silistra airport in northeastern Bulgaria. The plant will feature approximately 400,000 solar panels and will come onstream at the beginning of 2026.

The BESS project is scheduled for completion and commissioning in March 2026. 50% of the total cost of the project will be funded by NextGenerationEU.
